Purchase: I bought this saddle off of EBAY brand new for $799. It came with stirrup irons, leathers and free shipping. I wanted a saddle I could ride in and eventually compete on with my mare.
Likes: The structure of this saddle is lovely and the leather is quite smooth. I love the color of it and it's not to orange (as some saddles can be!) nor is it too dark.
Dislikes: What I didn't like about it is that there are visible white markings on it where I don't know what happened because if you take a look at the photo on tackroominc.com you will notice white in between the leather on the saddle. I also don't like the position it puts a rider in. I think this saddle was strictly made for jumping. It has very forward flaps and if you have longer stirrups (then jumping length) for flatwork you're knees will not be on the saddle and it looks very funky. I found that this saddle did not fit my mare after all so sadly it is for sale again.
Quality: The quality is excellent comparing to some saddles I've seen in this price range. The stitching is wonderful and the flaps and seat are very soft.
Summary: The Collegiate Laureate would be a great addition for anyone who jumps regularly but does not do flatwork at almost every ride. This saddle would look wonderful in any show regardless if it's schooling or the high levels of jumping. A great buy at this price and a plus if it fits your horse!
