Manufacturer: American Flex
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I acquired 2 used saddles and paid $1250, $1200. (these are the cheapest used prices I have seen for these saddles) The previous owners were very generous and included lots of extras like pads, saddle sox, and breast collar.
Likes: It is so comfortable. I love this saddle. My husband feels the same way. I believe my horses love it too. I had an old tex tan that pinched my horse and these flex panels make all the difference. I had my husband ride in an endurance saddle that I had and he called it the nutcracker. He definitely liked the American Flex. Love the padding and the soft knee rolls to keep you in the saddle instead of hard swells.
Dislikes: My only complaint is that the buckles wear on the underside of the leather. This is an obvious design flaw. Since these are older saddles, I don't know if that flaw is corrected. I am going to get some leather sleeves to put over the buckles to protect the saddle. One buckle is on the stirrup, the other is where two straps come together where you can adjust how far back on the horse the stirrup sets.
Quality: FYI: American Flex saddles are made in Germany and Amera Flex saddles are from the US (I think). I'm told they are both very good saddles and comparable in structure and quality. My saddles do have some scratches from use, the leather may be a tiny bit soft, but that's also what makes it comfortable.
Summary: Overall, I'm very pleased and love the comfort. When a professional horse trainer gets in the saddle and says it's the most comfortable thing they've sat in all day, that speaks volumes. Beats the heck out of that old, hard tex tan I was using.
