Harry Dabbs /Jaguar
Original Collection / Made in Walsall
Manufacturer: Harry Dabbs /Jaguar
Model: Original Collection / Made in Walsall
Category: Dressage Saddles
Purchase: This saddle was purchased online from a tack store's used inventory for $875. It is a 2000 model- no information as to specific model other than having a red metal plate under the stirrup flap which read "Harry Dabbs Original Collection" "made in Walsall, England".
Likes: Spent months testing others dressage saddles for fit/comfort for both myself and horse. Although my horse is an easier fit than I am due to my being so picky about comfort. I found this saddle to have a narrow twist, deep enough seat, super soft seat and knee blocks. What sold me was that I had contact with my horse in comfort and balance unlike several other brands where you feel a mile off your horse, or the twist is so mutated there is no connection, or worse yet, you get slammed into an awkward position.
Dislikes: Not much- just not a very "big" name as far as saddles go so may not get the resale if I ever need to. Dabbs does make the Jaguar and I was able to compare quality to them- the Dabbs (this is the made in Walsall collection, not the cheaper 'True Brit') was right on par.
Quality: Right up there with County, Albion, Stubben- much better than Bates or Passier in my opinion. The leather is high quality, supple, not waxed or slippery. The saddle has a spring tree and is wool flocked. The cantle is more of a banana type with a very shallow area for a nameplate- quite different than most Dabbs saddles- more like their Cobra and Jaquar line. Don't believe this was a high volume model so hard to find- will not be parting with this one anytime soon!
Summary: If you can find a Harry Dabbs like this one try it out. This saddle is extremely comfortable with its narrow twist and padded seat/knee blocks. Again, sat and rode in Passier/Stubben(next choice for contact with horse)/Albion/Bates (UGH!)/Barnsby/County/Wintec and on and on..and this one was the only one to keep my attention. If you like the Jaquars you will like this saddle.
