Purchase: These reins came on a horse that was donated to the barn's bridle.
I think they retail for about $100 or so.
Likes: I usually HATE rubber reins. They are stiff and thick and are hard to use (especially if you have small hands like me). These, however, are nice and flexible, and although they are thicker than traditional leather reins, they don't bother me at all. The grip when they are dry is fantastic. I DO NOT ride with out gloves...ever, but I went on a trail ride with these reins and hardly noticed that I wasn't wearing gloves. They offer a great feel and I HATE cleaning leather reins, so these are a bonus because only the fronts are leather.
They work really well in the arena as long as you are wearing gloves.
They also offer a great feel on the horse's mouth. They have a very elastic feel to them.
Dislikes: These reins got extremely slippery when they were wet. The day after my trail ride I used them without gloves in the arena and as soon as my hands began to sweat, they started slipping like crazy. The day after that, I used them with gloves and they were great.
Quality: The quality is amazing. The rubber is around a nylon core so that they are sturdy but thin. The leather fronts are stitched on nicely and the hardware is all nice.
Summary: These reins are brilliantly made, affordable and flexible, but if you don't like to wear gloves, these are not for you.
