Purchase: Purchased several from Country Supply for around $17 each. We feed our horses out in their paddocks and wanted to keep them from spilling the feed and ingesting dirt.
Likes: The feeders are really tough. We have used them in all kinds of weather for over six months with no damage or significant wear. They do help keep the feed from being spilled, as a car tire is a lot harder to tip over than just a feed tub.
Dislikes: There is a very serious safety hazard. The product info states they are to be used with 13", 14", or 15" tires. They fit loosely, and one of my horses wedged her hoof between the feeder and tire. It was quite difficult for two strong adults to remove the tire and feeder from around her leg, and she was very calm and trusting. An excitable horse could have been badly injured and perhaps endangered her handlers. My horse probably clomped around all night with a twenty pound hard rubber bracelet. She has huge (half Belgian) feet. A smaller horse would be even more likely to get a hoof trapped while pawing.
Quality: Very well made, they should last for years. Withstood temps well below freezing.
Summary: Don't put the feeders in anything larger than a 14" tire, and they should work very well. I am still using mine. The product could be improved dramatically if the outer lip was much wider and perhaps it would be nice to be able to secure it to the tire with nuts and bolts so you don't have to chase the feeder down every day. The horses find them to be excellent toys.
