Purchase: My horse is very close in front and cannot keep shoes on (steps all over himself). One day in frustration, I called Dover to find out which were the best boots to ride in and on their recommendation ordered a pair of Boa boots. Then I had my farrier trim my horse's feet (he had removed the shoes himself!). My farrier also likes the Boa boots. They cost about $140 - I ordered a set of gators without realizing they came with them.
Likes: My horse has one big foot and one smaller foot. The larger sized boot works fine for both. They stay on and are very easy to adjust. The gators don't keep sand out but my horse has no rubs. I have used them for trailering, trail rides with galloping, dressage and jumping. They have not failed me yet. I have heard some people complain that the boots twist...not a problem at all for me.
Dislikes: Velcro on the gators collects a lot of grass, burrs etc. Good thing I have two sets as it is giving me time to get a wire brush to clean the velcro with. I find the tensioning wires loosen a little but I just ride for 10 min or so and then snug them up. Not a problem after that.
Quality: So far seem to be great quality. I haven't done anything to them other than wash the gators once.
Summary: Highly recommend them. I am committed to keeping my horse bare foot and sound. He needs to be sound without the boots but this is the first step and I will use them as trailering protection and for trail rides forever.
