Purchase: I bought this saddle pad from dover saddlery over a year ago for about 140.00 plus tax and shipping. I bought it for my horse that had an old injury and for use on other horses just for the comfort.
Likes: I like that the wool is very dense and washes up great with the melp. The pad is very quality and mine looks new after over a year of consistent use. It is also one of the prettiest sheepskin pads around because of the way that it is shaped. This pad provides excellent wither relief on all of the horses that I used it on, and when used under a straight topped saddle pad it still provides the wither relief making all of you pads wither relief pads when used with this one! Also it is much cooler that neoprene.
Dislikes: I really dislike the open spine because rather that there being nothing on the horses spine like it is supposed to be, the sheepskin is flattened out and the cotton part is against the horses spin. Another thing is where the open spine starts the sheepskin kind of gradually goes from thin to thick again so there is hardly and padding to your horses back. I think that if the sheepskin had been abruptly stopped next to where the open spine was then it might have been actually an "open spine"
Quality: This pad is without a second look exceptional quality and is made to last! Washes up so great, and doesn't need as many washes as a regular pad because you can let the dirt and sweat dry then brush it off! So that is great!
Summary: This pad would be good for somebody wanting a pad for a horse with a injured back only if they had the saddle fix system. This pad would also be ideal for somebody that wanted great wither relief, or not padding on the back but in the withers. This pad would not be good for somebody that wanted padding for their horses back.
