Purchase: I buy this from several places, the cheapest for the biggest 8lbs is Country Supply at $61.00 it does last about 120 days or more. But you can find it almost anywhere, from 30-45 dollars for the 3.5lbs.
Likes: I like that my horse eats it and it works!! He became a picky eater after awhile. Its alfalfa based, and includes a scoop. Its easy to use, scoop and pour. My horse had horrible feet, brittle, and just wouldn't grow. The farrier always made comments about how little there was to trim. A few times he even put the shoes back on in almost the same nail spots. (and this was going 8 weeks or more) He always lost shoes, including one time a good chunk of his foot!! This was the first hoof supplement I tried, and the only one that worked. I tried a few other ones just to see and I'll be sure not to make that mistake again. Within a few weeks, his hoofs looked healthier, and started to grow nice and sturdy. They didn't crack and when the farrier came out he had something to trim! He told me keep him on this, its working! My horse has also done some serious damage to his feet, about one step away from having the vet come out to do some serious repair. With this stuff I feel better knowing his feet are getting the added nutrients they need. Added benefit is a healthier tail! My TB has always had a thin mane, and long but kinda thin tail. This stuff makes his tail much thinker! Now the farrier comes out almost every 6 weeks, because his feet grow so much better!
Dislikes: Nothing, I like everything. If anything, and maybe a pelleted form would be nice, as long as it didn't lose any of its effectiveness. I think horses get sick of powders, I know mine does after awhile.
Quality: Very well, holds up nicely and stays fresh. I did a little research on the main things horses need for better hooves, and the breakdown of how much of each to make the other effective. Masters hoof blend had the best levels to make the product actually effective with out having to feed so much like some other brands. Just a little chemistry for you. :)
Summary: Like I said before, I tried some other types, Nu-Hoof (was ok) and Shoers Friend (did nothing). This one works well for my TB, when I run out and take a few weeks to remember to get more, it shows. Back to brittle toes. Its not expensive so its worth a try. Give it about a full month or 2 to see some real good results. Depending of course on the condition of your horses hooves. Worked for my guy, so I'm sticking with it! I need my guy to last me a long long time, so whatever works, I'm keeping, including him!
