Dressage Saddles

Manufacturer: Albion
Model: Legend 5000
Category: Dressage Saddles

Purchase: I purchased this saddle used through the internet for $875. I REALLY needed a dressage saddle that would be comfortable for me AND MOST IMPORTANTLY fit my older warmblood. Plus I wanted a black one that matched my tack...got tired of having a "sore-thumb" brown dressage saddle LOL :P

Likes: This saddle was a RARE 19 inch seat, and I do know that the seat sizes in Albion run small...so it REALLY was an 18 inch (exactly what I needed!) :) It has such a PADDED, comfortable seat that cushions my bum and I like how it gives me a secure, BUT not restricting position. My horse moves freely in it too. *NOTE* It is VERY good for a tall rider with long legs and wide hips like myself and DOESN'T cause my hips to hurt and ache while/after riding...PLUS for me!

Dislikes: I don't like how the black dye on the saddle comes off every time I clean it. I have to use 6 saddle sponges to get the job done. It's a pain. The seat leather looks like it's fading into a brown hue too. It also stains my white full seat breeches after riding :( I have no clue if all Albions are like this, but I have a feeling that the person(s) before me might have shoe-polished the saddle without telling me...?

Quality: The construction is okay. I was told it's a 2001 model. The leather on the seat is starting to wrinkle and have superficial cracks. The leather attached to the back of the cantle looks like it is coming unstitched a little bit. It may just be how it was taken care of previously before I got it. When I got it in the mail, the leather was REALLY dry and rubbery-like...so it may just be that.

Summary: This saddle is a good one. It's going to be my schooling/lower level show saddle. It's getting me by for now. It's serving it's purpose really well :) I know these saddles run expensive, like over $3,000. I wouldn't pay that much for an Albion. Try to buy it used at a good price in excellent condition...I did. If I was going to spend big money on a brand new saddle, I would have to say Passier or Kieffer :D
