Purchase: I received this pad for my birthday from Rod's and paid $120. I had researched many pads before asking for this one.
Likes: The different selection of colors and how the 'square' pad still has rounded edges, it's just longer than the 'round' pad. I have ridden every horse I could in this saddle pad and each horse has been able to handle my barrel saddle with this pad under them, all from overweight QH's to skinny TB's. My barrel horse has very high withers and a wide back, and I had problems fitting my saddle to stop pinching at his withers. This pad took all the pressure off of his withers with it's extra padding by the withers. He also has a ridge back and this pad has extra padding on either side of the back seam, allowing relief from the back and providing airflow. My horse doesn't sweat as much, he hasn't gotten any sores, and he stopped rearing. I didn't think a saddle pad could make or break a fit, but it has. This saddle pad is wonderful and works well under my english saddle for schooling at home or riding other peoples horses to help my saddles fit.
Dislikes: The one and only thing I don't like about the saddle is how dirty it can get, but, all you have to do is wipe it with a moist cloth to keep it clean at dusty shows. A little more hassle than I'd like on show day.
Quality: The pad is constructed with air flow material to keep the horse cool. The bottom side is fuzzy (I don't know what it is) and the top is a nice mesh material, easy to pin numbers onto. There is extra padding along the spine of the pad and a few inches back for the withers, allowing airflow and relief from pressure. I believe this pad is a very nice quality pad for the money, it has lasted me since fall of last year on at least 17 different horses, and it comes in 10 colors! The square pad is 28" by 30", which fits nice under my Nathan Lamb with extra room for my number to dangle.
Summary: This is a wonderful pad to help fit horses with odd shaped backs. It took me 5 years to find a saddle to fit my horse, and 1 year to find a pad to fit with the saddle and horse. I would recommend this pad to anybody that has problems with their horses withers or back, as long as their saddle fits.
I barrel race around the state on many different horses, and this pad has been a godsend!
