Purchase: I purchased this saddle from the Australian Stock Saddle Company over the phone. This saddle was on sale for $295 with or without horn. I already own another saddle from the same company and am very happy with it. I was looking for a lightweight, but secure saddle to start my filly in.
Likes: Given that this was a synthetic saddle and I was paying less then $300 for it, I had pretty low expectations. I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised when I opened the box. The saddle is much more attractive in person then on the website. I like the fact that this saddle has a very western appearance. The cordura is thick and securely stitched with leather accents. Crucial areas such as the horn (optional), poleys, and stirrup "leathers" are made of leather or reinforced with leather. Also the saddle came standard with heavy aluminum stirrups, not plastic like so many synthetic saddles. As a woman, I appreciate the fact that this saddle has a narrow twist.
Dislikes: The only thing I would say I'm not 100% happy with is the height of the horn. It is taller then I personally would like. I prefer a reining style horn as opposed to a barrel racing type horn. This is just my own personal preference.
Quality: As stated above, the cordura is thick and durable with good consistent coloring throughout. Stitching is extremely secure. I have not owned the saddle long, but I think it will hold up well over time.
Summary: An inexpensive, well-made saddle. Perfect for trail riders or anyone wanting a secure, comfortable and light weight saddle. As a side note: I have always found the customer service at the Australian Stock Saddle Company to be very good. They seem to really care about helping you find the right saddle for you and your horse.
