Model: Endurance Saddle
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I paid $450 plus shipping when I bought this saddle from the company in Texas. This does not include, of course, the additional $900 charged to my credit card when they ran the transaction through not once but three times, and then ignored my calls and emails until I had to get my bank's fraud department involved. I only got the additional $900 back when Wachovia threatened to launch a fraud investigation into Hilason.
Likes: There is nothing whatsoever that redeems this saddle or this company.
Dislikes: A Hilason saddle is the equivalent of strapping a pool table to your horse's back and attempting to ride it. The saddle was heavy, cumbersome, flat as a board, and never conformed to my horse's back. It created awful pressure points even with the pommel insert removed and a Skito pad underneath. It slipped to the side if I so much as shifted my weight. I hate to think what kind of damage might be done to a horse or rider during a big spook in this saddle.
Quality: The saddle was made of the worst possible quality leather and synthetic fleece, with huge obvious stitching and glue holding it together. The stirrup and girth riggings are made of nylon that frayed after one use. The entire thing was so overstuffed with stiff flocking that it wouldn't even bend enough to fit on a saddle rack in a tack locker.
Summary: This saddle was so awful that I literally couldn't even give it away; I offered it for free to a friend, and it's currently molding in her tack room, unused. I wound up saving up a bit and buying a great Barefoot saddle, which I should have done in the first place and you should do too if you're considering a Hilason. Horrible saddles, horrible quality, and horrible, horrible service--apparently from some guy's basement apartment, as another reviewer said! If you were thinking about a Hilason, run away! Run far, far away!
