Purchase: I had been looking at these stirrups at my local tack shop when I happened upon a pair of them for sale used. I happily grabbed the used ones for $25. This used pair only had the rubber pads, I would love to try the cheese grater ones also.
Likes: The wider foot base really is easier on your foot. I didn't expect this to be an advantage because it is only something like half an inch wider. I was surprised at how much better it feels on my foot, and my foot feels less worn out after riding.
The reason I wanted these stirrups was because they are so light. I am a bit big for the horse I ride and jump, so any less weight seems like a good thing. But they are also a significant reduction in weight when you are just carrying around your saddle and lifting it up to put it on the horse! The fact that they are plastic and lightly bounce off your knee or ankle if you do hit them is nice.
These stirrups are much easier to "find" with your foot, although I am not totally clear why that is. One theory that I heard is that because they are lighter, they do not pull down on the stirrup leather so much as to cause it to flatten them right away. That doesn't seem like the whole story, but I don't have a better explanation, and they are easier to pick up again if you lose them. And being light they don't bruise your ankle while they are flopping around as you try to get them again.
I like the looks of the stirrups! The black just kinds disappears next to your boot making a much cleaner look than shiny stirrups glaring out. It looks about like how it looks if you are riding without stirrups, much prettier.
Dislikes: I have been using these stirrups for about 2 months on my jumping saddle and I haven't found anything not to like. I will use them for cross-country jumping in shows, and have yet to figure out if I can use them in things like dressage classes.
Quality: Quality is excellent.
Summary: I LOVE these stirrups and sure wish I could get some more at the same price I got my first pair. Maybe I will treat myself to a brand new pair for my dressage saddle.
