FXK Technology Shaped Sheepskin Dressage Pad
English Saddle Fittings/Pads

Manufacturer: Fleeceworks
Model: FXK Technology Shaped Sheepskin Dressage Pad
Category: English Saddle Fittings/Pads

Purchase: I purchased this pad used online for $50 including shipping. It was an '07 model and had been used a few times by the previous person. She was selling it so cheap because the top quilted part had rust stains from her stirrup irons. The sheepskin underneath was still IN NEW condition and was still gorgeous! :) I needed a good shaped dressage pad for my boy during strenuous summer lessons/practice.

Likes: I like this pad a lot! It fits my boy great and my saddle fits into the outline just perfect. It draws moisture away from my horse and keeps his back cool while working. The sheepskin is beautiful and soft and I notice my horse moves a lot better with it. It sure beats those square dressage pads that bulk up and cause unnecessary sweat spots/discomfort for your horse. It also has these convenient fleece slits for your billets to run through...preventing chafes and sores on your horse. The sheepskin/fleece is ALL real!!

Dislikes: I didn't like the fact of the red rust stains on the top of the pad, but hey, it was a steal of a price and the pad works just fine and the sheepskin is like new. I just plan to use this pad at home, not for shows. I don't know if these pads are always this way when you buy them new, but mine is a little flimsy and floppy...could it be from the previous person washing it?... *NOTE* Don't think this pad is just enough for under your saddle. I use a comfort pad for shock absorption because this pad isn't thick enough to do so. It's actually quite thin for being a sheepskin pad.

Quality: This pad has a quilted top with a reinforced nylon channel running across it for the spine chamber (kinda lets you know how even you have it on your horse's back). Mine is white...I wouldn't recommend that color for everyday use though. I think they also come in black too. It was just such a good deal, I couldn't pass it by. The positive effect is that it doesn't attract the sun during those long summer rides though, so that's something to keep in mind. It has natural sheepskin on the bottom of the pad that is totally gorgeous and lush like car-seat covers. It has rolled fleece trim all around it and a lifted front to allow air-flow. It is a sturdy pad, but like I said, when I got it, it was kind of worn like because it prob. had been washed several times. I'd recommend you not wash it too much. Just let it air dry bottom side up and curry the dirt with a clean curry comb when it's dry so the dirt just blows off. If you do wash it, wash it with Leather Therapy Laundry wash and conditioner and let it dry in the shade so it won't dry out from the sun ;)

Summary: This is a good pad to get for schooling/show. I don't know what they come like brand new, but if they do come flimsy and floppy-like, you'd better keep an eye out for a good deal on a used tack website. I don't think they're worth $169, that's for sure! If I was going to spend that much, I'd just get a custom made EA Mattes pad ;)
