Purchase: I received this as a Christmas gift several years ago. It was made in a custom color and I also received the matching rope reins. I had mentioned to family members that I wanted to try the halter-bridle combo idea before my next overnight trail ride. I also wanted to try a synthetic bridle, but hated the way nylon got dingy looking. Yes, I am picky, but I have an understanding family!
Likes: I love the easy care and always having a halter to tie my horse on the trail. The beta-biothane in really nice. It almost looks like leather. I was able to order an extra set of bit attachments so that I could use the halter part on another horse.
Dislikes: The sizing is a bit odd. EVERYTHING is adjustable, but I still can't get the fit exactly right. It may be too adjustable! I don't like that the throat latch doesn't buckle- it has a snap that could get caught on something if the horse rubs his head while tied.
Quality: After 6 years of use, there isn't anything wrong with this bridle. All of the hardware is brass, so if your horse gets in a panicky spot, the brass will break since the biothane won't (yes, I know from experience). The "trim" color is regular biothane stitched to the beta-biothane and all of the stitching is holding up great. All of the hardware is attached with rivets.
Summary: Overall, a wonderful product. A few "tweaks" would make it amazing: replace rivets with stitching or Chicago screws and put a buckle on the throat latch. I think Sportack may do custom sizes now, so the sizing issue may be solved as well.
