Purchase: I bought the Sentry saddles for 3 of my gaited horses after owning the Elite Guffey model and the Elite Crusade model for our SSH's and Rockies. I bought 3 of the Sentry saddles in 3 different tree widths, and prefer how much lighter they are, and how helpful Debra was with fitting the horses from photographs and the 2 measurements from their website.
I paid $1450 per saddle plus shipping.
Likes: The tree itself has more flair in front than the Guffey tree.
I like this fit better for all 3 horses. I also like the lighter leather...Wicket and Craig Amish type leather, and the neck of the fender is 2 inches not 3. The fenders turn very easily, and come pre-turned too.
The whole saddle is lighter by maybe 5 lbs than the Guffey Elite , and the front rigging ring is set further back, and covered with leather. The leather cover piece allows your fender to never catch on the rigging. The front rigging ring is set back slightly from the Guffey model and that makes the fit better with the V rigging. The rear cinch ring is hung at a slant so it comes just right to use the V rigging style latigo. When the latigo is hung off the rear ring, the cinch is very stable and does not migrate back on hills ever. Great saddle.
Dislikes: Nothing...it is perfect.
Quality: All details well made...small stitches, matching thread and all parts match and are even from side to side, and the leather has no imperfections and is dyed a beautiful dark brown or black.
Summary: Great saddle, great that it also comes in three tree sizes for a custom fit.
A deep secure saddle that is very light for how much saddle it is.
