Rocking R
Rose Tooled Reiner #895
Reining Saddles
Manufacturer: Rocking R
Model: Rose Tooled Reiner #895
Category: Reining Saddles
Purchase: I purchased this saddle at Ohio Equine Affair from Stagecoach West out of Buffalo. It was sold as "used" but there really wasn't much wear to prove that statement, it was basically new. It came with a Tory flank cinch and a Billy Cook breast collar. The package was $799. This particular saddle I believe is from an older run of Rocking R Saddlery, because it has a brown smooth out seat and less silver than the model that is currently in their catalog, but it was the closest number I could find. It is however the same tree and tooling and it is a 16" seat.
Likes: I like the way this sits on my horse and the way it puts me on my horse. The seat isn't exceptionally built up like some equitation and reining saddles so the saddle doesn't explicitly tell you where you must sit. Also it has a nice cut away for a close contact feel. Plus I LOVE this tooling, I know that shouldn't be the main reason for buying a saddle, but I was in the market and it was the first on that spoke to me.
Dislikes: The fender leather has taken a while for me to get the stirrups turned, and the one still isn't quite right, but part of that is that I don't have a good place to store and turn them regularly, I'm sure they will come around.
Quality: The construction is very good, all real leather the tooling is nice and deep and detailed. The fleece on the underside seems to be holding up well and the light color of the leather is holding it's own. And the seat is well constructed and comfortable, I can't wait to go on a trail ride in it.
Summary: These saddles are very comfortable, well made and priced right. My friend has the training saddle by Rocking R and wishes she had bought 2, so she and her husband won't have to share. I love the tooling and they use Montana Silversmith silver that is always nice. Plus I felt like I got a reasonable price for the whole shebang, so this is as much an endorsement for Stagecoach West as it is for the saddle I guess.
