Purchase: My horse, since moving from New England to the deep south, has become a chronic abscesser. Recently, he had to have a portion of his hoof wall removed due to a severe abscess.
I purchased this wrap because I was tired of duct tape! It was advertised as being tough enough to use for turnout, so I figured it would be more than adequate for a week's stall rest.
I bought the wrap from SmartPak and paid $19.95.
Likes: The velcro on this wrap is VERY strong and the wrap stayed in place well. I wrapped my horse's foot in vetwrap before putting the hoof wrap on and only had to change the bandage daily. When using duct tape, I had to change it twice a day because the duct tape would fall apart, so that was an improvement.
Dislikes: Like I said before, this wrap is advertised as "tough for turnout". So I was pretty upset when after 4 days of STALL REST, it had a big hole in the bottom! I would understand it having a little bit of wear, but it was worn through.
Quality: This is a poor quality item. I realize that it doesn't cost much, and I wasn't expecting it to last forever by any means, but 4 days? In a stall, no less, when it specifically says that the wrap it so strong that you can use it for turnout? That's unacceptable to me.
Summary: This item was a big disappointment. I will never buy one of these again and will never recommend them to anyone. The only good part about the hoof wrap is the velcro, which requires almost superhuman strength to get apart.
