Purchase: I have three very different horses with all different backs. A few years ago, before I knew more about saddle fit and horses, I bought a Textan flex tree saddle, which I loved sitting in and thought my horse would love also. I own a Tennessee Walker, Arab and Morab. The two older mares probably had harden backs and would put up with anything, but the young walker was getting a sore back after riding. I tried several pad and blanket combinations and several saddles for this young horse before my friend lent me her Corrector pad. This was the answer. It allowed me to use my saddle on all three horses. The pad has stiff plastic plates inside which help to distribute the weight more evenly. It also bends and flexes nicely and is cut to allow air circulation on horses spine. Additional inserts can be purchased to change the angle and fit of the saddle or to compensate for horses that are more one- sided in their gait. The size of the tree becomes almost inconsequential, as the pad can be adjusted for the differences.
I like to use it with one foam insert on each side so as to tip my saddle back just a bit for my comfort and balance.
Cost was $150.00, for insert, which can be used alone or with a thin blanket to protect your saddle. An additional mink black pad/cover can be purchased for an additional $150.00 to protect and keep it clean. It is attractive and would look nice under a western saddle.
Likes: This unit makes any horse fit to my saddle, with comfort for both of us. The insert can be removed from the pad very easily. My horses' sweat patterns are always even now. Sore backs have been eliminated. Even after 25 miles of competitive trail riding, they can bring in a blue ribbon, with no points lost for back sensitivity.
Dislikes: Color: The color for the insert is white. I have found that I prefer using this unit alone without the overpad. White gets very dirty on the trail.
Pad: although attractive and functional, I find the pad to be heavy, and bulky. It is my assumption that it may make the horse warmer in hot weather. If I was to purchase another one, I would buy it without the additional pad.
Quality: Both pad and insert are individually made. The construction is tight. The stitching remains solid. The plates remain in place. The color of the pad is not fading.
I have used it through hundreds of miles of riding for several years now. It has been rained on and washed without harming it.
Summary: I am very pleased with this product.
