Purchase: I bought this at TSC for approx. $15. My mare normally wore the absorbine fly bonnets and wore them very well, but this year's baby had discovered that it was fun to take off mom's fly mask and use it as a toy. The flies were biting my horse's eyes so badly if they weren't wearing a mask that they would be swollen and runny by the end of the day, so I needed to do something and fast (which meant not ordering a nicer fly mask). I had been pretty disgusted by the original supermask and its lack of durability, but my options were the same fly mask she wore or the Supermask II, which had the new anti-off velcro feature.

Likes: It's been on my mare now for three weeks and hasn't come off, at least not unless I undo the velcro. Baby has given up on trying. I like that it was inexpensive, although compared to the generic ones I don't see a difference in quality, other than the double velcro at the cheek. It is a better looking mask than the absorbine ones, since it is fitted to the face.

Dislikes: No ear coverage, and the flies itch her ears so much. Also, the tight fitted form rubs against her face, and she is a thoroughbred with thin, sensitive skin.

Quality: Well, the quality, as I mentioned, is not any better than the generics, except they patented the velcro double overlap on the cheek. They did not improve the craftsmanship between the Supermask I and the Supermask II, so I don't expect it to last more than a year or two...Supermasks just seem to fall apart.

Summary: If you don't mind replacing your fly mask every year or so to have one that stays on (if you have other horses that like to take it off), this might be the one for you. On the other hand, if your horses leave each other's mask alone, I would either invest in a higher-end fly mask to last many years or a lower-end fly mask, which will last just as long as the Supermask but cost half as much. If possible, I would get the one with ears, but it wasn't available at this TSC.
