Purchase: I bought this pad from a local tack store. I paid $125.00 for it brand new. I wanted a pad that would give better support to an already well fitting saddle for long rides (rides over 3 hours). I bought the sheepskin barrel racer girth at the same time and paid $75.00 for it. Again, I wanted a good trail girth that wouldn't chafe.
Likes: My horse seems to like the SMx pad and is always level headed and comfortable. I don't see any rub or wear marks on his back and so far the pad is holding up well (has been used for about 4 months) with no damage. Minor wear on the leather fender guards. The sheep skin is great and the liner part peels off for washing. It needs a special detergent but so do all sheepskin products. I usually just hose it off after a long ride.
Dislikes: I've found that the pad tends to shift under the saddle. I don't know if this is the pad or how my saddle fits but I usually have to adjust the pad either when he canters or when we're doing a lot of hills. It slips down in the front by his whither. I find it really annoying and it makes me wonder why it does that. I use a breast collar and v-rigging. The girth is great and I don't dislike anything about it.
Quality: Seems to be holding up well. I rinse it with the hose and dry it outside.
Summary: I'm not sure if the pad moves because of the saddle or something else. Other than the shifting I like the pad. I feel like I may have paid a bit too much. The girth I really like.
