Purchase: Bought used from a local tack shop - intended to use it as a work saddle, but have ended up showing open and AQHA in it. Paid $950 out the door.
Likes: I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SADDLE. I would buy another Billy Cook in a heartbeat. The seat is very narrow and is a cutaway close contact - I can feel every thing I need to when schooling everyday at home. But it puts me in such a great position, I found myself preferring to ride in it to show in as well! Had to really clean it up good! It drops your leg down right under your hip where it should be. Every other saddle I've ridden in I have to continually yank the stirrups back... I HATE that.
Dislikes: I'm sure the silver looked great as a new saddle for several years, but it's not premium silver, it doesn't really clean up to a nice white shine. But overall that's a small thing compared with the things I love about the saddle.
Quality: Construction and quality overall are great - the tooling is really pretty, very intricate. I don't usually like floral but this one is really nice. The silver is not the quality I would want in a top level QH show saddle, but on the whole I'll take it since feel and body position are more important to me. And the silver design is pretty, with brass pleasure horses on the larger corner plates. I'm sure there's a product that would clean it better than what I'm using...
Summary: Bottom line, I love the saddle. Feel and position are so important and of all the saddles I've ridden in, including my mom's Blue Ribbon, this one is by far my favorite.
