Purchase: I bought this book at a Barnes and Noble bookstore in New Hampshire for the cover price of $29.95. I bought it because at the time I was volunteering at a horse rescue working with mustangs, and thought it would be a valueable resource for breaking horses.
Likes: Lyons lays down breaking or rebreaking a horse to saddle, step by step, using a great deal of roundpenning methods. I liked how any and all of the lessons could be applied to a horse of any age to fix a specific problem.
This book introduced me to roundpenning, and built a good foundation of knowledge for me to work off of for horses of all ages.
The most important part of this book for me was the chapter on 'sacking out'. It is a gentle way of introducing new objects (tack, ropes, blankets et) to horses that I have come to use all the time.
Dislikes: I found some chapters to be a bit repetitive.
Quality: This is one of the best training books I've read (except for Monty Roberts). The writing is very easy to understand, it virtually paints visuals for you as you read. I found all of the concepts easy to translate from the written page to the round pen.
Summary: If you are breaking a horse to ride, or just working with a problem horse, this is a great intro book to get you started.
