Purchase: I purchased this saddle from April Battles, online, for approximately 1100.00 USD. I purchased it based on research that these saddles are easier on a horse's back and allow for freer movement.
Likes: This saddle is really light and easy to use. The leather on the seat is supple and comfortable. This type of saddle allows for very close contact with the horse.
Dislikes: The saddle fenders are made of an inferior leather and prone to damage on exposure to moisture. Prolonged use on longer rides, even with the approved Skito memory foam pad, resulted in obvious back fatigue with the 2 different horses it was tried on. Each horse began to stretch their neck out more and more frequently as the ride went on, a behaviour not noticed with a proper fitting treed saddle. The rides in question were 3-4 hours each, over rugged terrain, with a rider of normal weight (150 lbs) and good balance.
Quality: Overall good, but unlikely to stand up to hard use and bush country.
Summary: Useful for people who to not carry a lot of trail gear and do not ride for long periods of time. May also be a good saddle for a rider who is not able to lift a heavy saddle. This saddle needs to be used with the correct pad, or the rider's weight will be concentrated directly on the horse's spine.
