Likes: I like how this saddle fits my horse and the options available to fit other horses I ride. It comes with the FISH system,which Dover did not advertise, and you can order other width gullets like Wintec has to offer. It also has knee and behind the knee blocks you can remove. The quality of the saddle I think is better than Wintec. The saddle does not look synthetic. The Thorowgood website has instructions on how to fit your horse gullet size without having to purchase anything. You just print it, grab a flexible piece of wire, mold it to your horse and compare to print out. Very simple and free!
Dislikes: My saddle came with a metal "Teqnic" tab on the stirrup leather keeper. This metal tab is not rounded to fit the keeper. This tab digs into you leg when jumping. I removed it, but now I have an ugly hole. I let Thorowgood know this problem, but they have not responded to my email.
Also the stirrup leather keeper is held together with a metal rivet which rubs on the back knee block under the flap, causing the back knee block to wear prematurely. Thorowgood needs to offer a smaller option of knee blocks. The ones issued with the saddle are too big for a close contact saddle. Other than that the saddle is great.
Quality: Very good construction other than some minor engineering flaws described above. Remove metal tab on stirrup leather keeper. Fasten stirrup leather keeper by stitching not by rivet. Offer smaller blocks for saddle.
Summary: I would definitely recommend this saddle. It looks great and is comfortable to ride. Better quality then Wintec, and looks like real leather. I have used Wintec saddles.
