Purchase: My Wintec Isabelle with Cair was purchased for the bargain price off ebay. It came complete with a set of gullet change plates also. It was a real bargain and when I rode in it, became an even bigger bargain.
Likes: The Wintec version of the Isabelle is my favourite model because I love the suede-type material and the lightweight of the saddle. I have had a series of Bates saddles over the years and have found them to fit a large range of horses. They seem to be very adaptable in this area. I have loved every one of the Bates Saddles that I have owned, but they just get better and better. I also love the light-weight of the Wintec, especially good for young horses as they do not have a proper balance when first broken. This particular Wintec had the Cair panels. I had been riding in the normal-panelled type previously, but on my youngster I was getting rocketed skywards with every stride and found the trot uncomfortable. By getting the Cair panels this prevented this happening and gave me a great ride on this large-moving horse. It really changed my riding for the better. I also found the seat very secure and deeper than my previous model even though it looked the same. I have withstood many 180 degree spins in this saddle, which I think says a lot for it. The changeable gullets work just great for a growing and ever-changing animal also, just a couple of screws and you can put a new gullet plate in. My pack also contained the measure to gauge the gullet fit. Really great bonus.
Dislikes: In all honesty - there is nothing about this saddle I do not like. I just love it to pieces.
Quality: The wintec material is very hard wearing as my second-hand Isabelle with Cair had withstood endurance and cattle round-ups previously to my obtaining it. It is very easy to clean with soap and water and takes very little time compared to old saddle soap methods. The uses this saddle has withstood in its life will stand as a great example to its quality and construction. There is still years of use in this little ripper.
Summary: I only have the highest of praise for Bates, their customer service and their products. I have been a customer with them for over 40 years now and in that time have only had one matter to resolve, which was minor and which they dealt with promptly and free-of-charge. The two Bates brothers are still involved with the Company started by their father years ago, as a family concern.
