Purchase: I bought these boots used on ebay for $30.00 a couple years ago. I needed them for lessons.
Likes: These are the only men's paddock boots I have worn that are actually comfortable. They are padded on the inside, water proof (though I don't think they are advertised as such), and nice to walk in. They are actually more comfortable than my regular shoes, and I wear them on a daily basis.
Despite the fact that I bought them used, they have held up to a lot of wear and tear, including slogging through muddy fields, hiking in snow and being stepped on by a horse (luckily while my foot was not inside.)
Dislikes: I wish they weren't so pointy in the front.
Quality: These are leather boots with a steel shank and padded sole. The exterior sole is rubber with good tread. The leather is very high quality, and at least in my experience is water proof. It stays in good 'black' condition even after the numerous times I've let mud dry on it.
Summary: These are comfortable shoes that will stand up to all the wear and tear you can inflict on them. I would highly recommend them. Ariats are a little more expensive than most other brands of boots, but in my opinion the extra cost is worth the extra quality.
