Likes: I was very skeptical about this pad when I received it. Its very thin and its solid plastic/rubber so I couldn't imagine how it would keep my horse's back from heating up. But let me say I'm pleasantly surprised, and I don't think I'd ever be without one again! The difference riding was immediate, its hard to describe the feeling, but it's like shock absorbing for your whole body. My horse's back does not appear to become overheated either. It looks like just a silly patch of rubber, but it really does work!
Dislikes: Though they call it contoured, its not shaped to the horse's back, its straight across the back... when saddling, I have to be extra careful to pull it up into the channel, and when I ride I wonder if its slipping down... but it never seems to slip, neither does my saddle! If it was shaped to the horse's back, and perhaps had a little wither cut back, I wouldn't be able to improve upon it at all.
Quality: Its hard to say anything about the quality as its really just a patch of rubber, but so far its amazing, and I can't imagine I'll be having any problems with it. I believe it has a very long guarantee as well.
Summary: Its astonishing how well it works for such a seemingly simple thing. I'll never be without one. And what I like best is how thin it is.. if my saddle is a close fit, I can still use it. If the pad was contoured in shape, I'd rate it a 5. I'm very picky about having contoured pads, but this one, despite being straight, is still worth the investment.
