Purchase: I purchased this saddle (barely) used for $3,000.
Likes: The saddle sits very correctly, very similar to a Broken Horn or Phil Harris. I ride Horsemanship as well as Pleasure, so seat position is very important to me - I don't want to be thrown back on my pockets with my legs forward. This saddle delivers - I can easily sit squarely with my legs underneath me.
Dislikes: The *only* thing I don't like is that the off billet is kind of thick and therefore not easy to put into the keeper on my show cinch. Some oil took care of it - a very minor concern.
Quality: The quality is top-notch. Steve makes each saddle by hand, and it shows. The fleece is real sheepskin, the silver is real sterling (no overlay) and the leather is hand-tooled. Because this saddle was custom made, the silver pattern is unique - I won't see my saddle coming and going in the show pen.
Summary: The biggest bang for your buck in a high-end Western show saddle. You'd pay (at least) twice as much from a better-known manufacturer, and the silver on those saddles would be overlay, not sterling.
